Bloomlife Bringing fetal monitoring from hospital to home

A compact prenatal monitoring device that makes high-quality care accessible anytime, anywhere.

Challenge

Traditional prenatal monitoring requires frequent and sometimes lengthy hospital visits, especially for high-risk pregnancies. This creates a heavy burden on expectant mothers and puts pressure on already stretched healthcare systems.

Bloomlife set out to shift this care model from a hospital setting to the patient’s own home, without compromising medical accuracy, safety or reliability.

Solution

Bloomlife partnered with Comate to design the electronics for a compact, wearable prenatal monitoring device that women can comfortably wear at home using a patch.

The result is a miniaturized, wireless, and rechargeable medical device that meets strict performance and regulatory requirements while remaining user friendly for daily use.

APPROACH Engineering robust electronics for remote prenatal monitoring

Bloomlife provided the product concept, monitoring requirements, industrial design direction, and key system constraints. Our role focused on translating these requirements into a reliable electronics platform suitable for a compact wearable medical device.

Working closely with the Bloomlife team, we developed the electronic architecture to support accurate physiological signal acquisition, wireless communication, and rechargeable operation within a highly constrained form factor.

Throughout development, we balanced performance, power efficiency, reliability, and integration requirements, ensuring the electronics could meet the demanding expectations of a medical monitoring device.

DEVELOPMENT From prototype to production-ready electronics

We started with early-stage development boards to validate signal acquisition and system architecture. These prototypes evolved into a fully integrated electronics platform tailored to the compact patch form factor.

The system was engineered as a wireless, rechargeable solution with optimized power management and robust data handling.

We designed the electronics to comply with medical device standards, supporting safety, reliability, and long-term performance.

The compact design introduced significant integration challenges, requiring careful trade-offs between size, functionality, manufacturability, and testability. Together with Bloomlife, we identified the right balance to meet the product requirements while maintaining a scalable design approach.

KEY FEATURES

  • Compact and wearable design
The electronics were engineered to fit within a lightweight patch that can be comfortably worn on the abdomen for extended periods.
  • Accurate physiological monitoring
The system continuously captures maternal heart rate, fetal heart rate, and uterine activity with clinically relevant precision.
  • Wireless connectivity
Data is transmitted seamlessly to connected platforms, enabling remote monitoring and real time insights for clinicians.
  • Rechargeable and user-friendly
The device is designed for repeated use, with intuitive interaction that supports independent use by patients at home.
  • Designed for scale
The architecture supports efficient manufacturing, testing, and cost control, preparing the product for large scale deployment.

THE RESULT Enabling a new standard in maternal care

Together with Bloomlife, we helped bring a new model of prenatal care closer to reality. By moving routine fetal monitoring from hospital to home, this solution reduces the need for frequent clinical visits and eases the burden on both patients and healthcare providers.

Pregnant women gain more control, comfort, and peace of mind during a critical period. Healthcare professionals benefit from continuous, high-quality data that supports better decision making.

Bloomlife has already secured FDA clearance for maternal and fetal heart rate monitoring in 2023. The next milestone is a second FDA clearance for full antepartum fetal monitoring, planned for 2026. Commercial launch of the new patch is expected by the end of 2026.

This project shows how deep domain expertise and strong hardware engineering come together to create meaningful impact. By combining Bloomlife’s vision in maternal health with our expertise in medical device development, we are helping redefine how care is delivered.

The implications go beyond convenience. This is about improving access to care, increasing efficiency in healthcare systems, and ultimately contributing to healthier outcomes for mothers and babies worldwide.
