Building on user feedback from their first product, Cyclowax wanted to transform the sometimes messy, manual hot waxing process into a professional automated solution. The goal: a user-friendly system that guarantees a perfect, high-quality re-wax every time.

Together with Cyclowax, we engineered an intuitive device featuring active cleaning and precise thermal control. By translating user insights into technical requirements, we created a "just press play" solution for optimal wax quality and peak performance.

Approach Turning expert insights into a user-friendly concept
Hot waxing is ‘hot’ in bicycle chain maintenance, and for good reason. It reduces friction and significantly extends the lifespan of the chain by up to three or four times. However, the traditional process is often messy and not that user-friendly. Building on feedback from their first product, Cyclowax approached Comate with a clear goal: to translate their deep expertise in wax performance into a production ready device that makes professional chain care accessible, fast, and effortless.
Development Engineering a compact, precise and automated system
Cyclowax wanted to create a compact, travel friendly system that could not only heat wax but also actively clean the chain and maintain precise temperatures to ensure a perfect coating every time. Our team of engineers and designers developed the Performance Wax Kit, a system that automates the entire process. By combining multi disciplinary engineering with Cyclowax’s domain expertise, we delivered a product with five core benefits.

We ensured the wax never overheats to prevent degradation, while guaranteeing the chain reaches the optimal temperature for perfect wax penetration. The product’s visual identity was crafted by Voyager, complementing the technical foundations with a refined, recognisable look.
By guiding the project from initial roadmap through to certification and production, we helped translate a complex vision into a scalable, high-end product. The result is a "just press play" solution that reduces a traditionally hours-long task to a simple 10-minute routine. Launched in early 2026 and backed by cycling legends like Greg Van Avermaet, the Performance Wax Kit has officially made professional-grade performance accessible to every cyclist, anywhere in the world.
